Dallin L. Brooks – Business Manager
Dallin Brooks is the founder and current Business Manager of SEESIn Wood. Dallin received both his Bachelor of Science in Wood Products Processing and his Master of Science in Forests and Society from the University of British Columbia.
Dallin founded SEESIn Wood to help companies and consumers realize how Thermally Modified Wood (TMW) can be a socially, environmentally, and economically sustainable alternative to other materials. He founded SEESIn Wood envisioning the small local rural communities that can be developed thanks to new wood technologies that would allow locally-harvested species to be enhanced to compete with far-originated illegally logged tropical species. Through value-added wood products such as thermally modified blue stained pine, these communities could become economically stable even through commodity product cycles and downturns, as this wood is harvested and used for value-added applications. Dallin also realizes this technology can also help maintain biological diversity of surrounding forests as any locally harvested wood could be enhanced to improve its properties.
Dallin has experienced all sides of the forest industry, from traditional wood production to non-timber forest products. Raised at a hunting and fishing resort in the northern BC forests, Dallin has an appreciation for trees as a beautiful natural resource to animal life and to human endeavors. Dallin has tree planted, logged, milled, and worked for a wood moulding producer, a door manufacturer, and in construction, acquiring a thorough understanding of the wood supply chain. Furthermore, Dallin has worked for an NGO in the forest economics department, done freelance consulting and marketing, and worked in sawmill equipment industries. His experience has taken him around the world and he has published several papers, most on thermal modification, which Dallin sees as the first great improvement to solid wood since the modern mill. Dallin currently works for Jartek Oy in Finland as their North American Rep for Thermowood TM Kilns.
Currently Dallin is working on his Ph.D. in Wood Science at the University of British Columbia.
